The Ultimate Fresh-Cut Produce Packaging System

The consumption of value-added produce in supermarkets and foodservice venues continues to realize significant growth.

As a value-added produce item, it is critical that fresh-cut produce be packaged in the appropriate protective environment.

The UltraFreshSystem™ is an innovative fresh food package that features Paper Pak Industries' revolutionary UltraZapXtendaPak food safety pad and a state-of-the-art Sonoco tray. The UltraFreshSystem is available exclusively from Bunzl Distribution.

Together, the tray and the active absorbent pad maintain the fresh-cut product's appearance and extend the shelf life by slowing the product's respiration rate.

Fresh-cut produce processors and foodservice operators will realize immediate benefits by using the UltraFreshSystem:

  • Product is fresher and firmer through the use-by date
  • Fresh-cut product retains more natural juices, delivering higher yield
  • Significantly less shrink will improve margins and reduce packaging costs
  • Extends product shelf life
  • Reduces yeast and mold inside the package
  • Interferes with the ethylene receptors
  • Lowers the risk of cross contamination and related operator liability
  • Unique tray design lowers stack height for higher shipping density, therefore reducing freight and storage costs
  • Tray's composite material provides a surface that seals better, faster, and at lower temperatures

Each UltraFreshSystem tray is pre-padded with an UltraZapXtendaPak food safety pad that absorbs excess moisture from the cut produce.

The patented UltraZapXtendaPak pad produces a steady stream of CO2 gas that wraps itself around the fresh-cut produce. This envelope helps reduce the growth of micro-organisms inside the UltraFreshSystem package.

UltraZapXtendaPak's active ingredients comply with government food packaging safety standards.

The custom-designed Sonoco tray features an insert that quickly channels the liquid away from the produce and won't tear as the product is spooned-out of the tray.

The UltraFreshSystem tray features a composite material that provides a surface that seals better, faster, and at lower temperatures than alternative produce trays. Plus, the tray is made with less plastic than competitive trays, thus lowering the product's carbon footprint.
